First Look at Rise: Articulate’s Newest eLearning Authoring Tool

If you’ve been following the trends within the eLearning industry over the past several years, you know that mobile eLearning development has been a huge focus for many eLearning authoring tool providers. As more and more people rely on mobile devices for everyday use, it has become increasingly important that we (as eLearning designers) can provide a consistent learning experience, regardless of the device being used to view our content.

Last week, Articulate launched Articulate 360, which included updated versions of Articulate Storyline and Articulate Studio. As I mentioned in my overview video of Storyline 360, this update added support for a new, mobile-responsive player. Articulate also released an entirely brand-new eLearning authoring tool, called Rise.

Articulate Rise New in Articulate 360

Compared to Articulate Storyline or Studio, Rise is a very unique eLearning authoring tool. Rise offers super-rapid eLearning development, in a web-based environment. In addition to being incredibly easy to use, Rise also has mobile responsiveness built-in! This makes it a no-brainer to create and offer mobile learning solutions.

  • Aaa ice job, Tim, both visually and information-wise… Thanks for taking the time…

Hadn’t played with rise yet, but seeing all the options makes me want to…

    • Thanks, Michael! Rise is super simple to use. I really like it, and I see a lot of opportunities for it!

  • Hi Tim,

Hope you are enjoying DevLearn! I Haven’t tried 360 or Rise just yet, but am curious just how much it truly supports responsive design– it would be nice to see native HTML5. SaaS approach should also make it easier to work the Articulate API’s.

    • Hi, Curtis! Thanks for reading and commenting! Rise fully supports responsive design. As for Storyline, they have chosen to go with a responsive player, which also works without any additional settings.

  • Thanks Tim, great overview. This looks very similar in functionality to GoMo and Elucidat, both browser based mobile responsive authoring platforms. I just wonder now if this is the first nail in the coffin for storyline as more and more organisations move to ‘mobile first’ design? I’ve seen a wave of companies move in this direction lately with more requests for mobile first content, including Volvo and Santander to name but two. I also wonder if Rise will be available as a stand alone product like GoMo etc in the future?

    • Great thoughts, Lee! I don’t think this will be the “nail in the coffin” for Storyline. I think there will always be a need for creating high-customized learning content, which isn’t currently possible in tools like Rise or GoMo. I also think, Articulate is working hard to make Storyline content mobile friendly, especially with the responsive player. This too will evolve and improve over time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Lee!
